Serious Moonlight is a film about Louise (Meg Ryan) who is a good and powerful lawyer who visits her country home for a nice romantic getaway on a weekend. But things don’t work out the way they are supposed to. A major setback for Louise comes in the form of her husband, Ian (Timothy Hutton), whom she has been married to for 13 years, when he tells her of his plans to leave her for another younger woman (Kristen Bell). Louise cannot seem to bear this and goes hysterical in an effort to win back her husband by hook or by crook. She holds Ian captive and demands him to tell her that he loves her and only her and that he will make their marriage work, otherwise he will never be released. But, that is when things begin to take a wrong turn.

Unexpectedly, a young gardener and Ian’s mistress arrive on the scene only to complicate the matters further. These circumstances make Louise and Ian deal with their past and future rationally and realistically.

By going by the movie previews and trailers, the movie does not seem too promising, but its fantastic star cast will hopefully help the movie succeed. Kristen Bell and Justin Long are the highlight of the film. Meg Ryan looks ravishing as usual even at the age of 48, and only someone like Kristen Bell could match up as her alternative.

Serious Moonlight is directed by Cheryl Hines who is making her directorial debut in feature films. Cheryl will be directing Adrienne Shelly’s final screenplay. She wrote this screenplay for Serious Moonlight shortly before she died. She was growing to be a talented filmmaker and was only 40 when she was killed. This screenplay has the same dark comic touch like Waitress, which was Adrienne Shelly’s previous movie which she wrote and directed. Cheryl will be marking her debut with Adrienne’s last piece of work. She had acted previously in Waitress and had done a brilliant job of it. Cheryl and Adrienne got close together and bonded well on the sets of Waitress.

Cheryl says of her, “I feel a great sense of pride to be directing this film. I had such respect for the work she did. And I love her writing so much. The tone is really in my wheel house.” Adrienne’s husband, Andy Ostroy is co producing Serious Moonlight.

It will be released on the 4th of December. If this movie works out and is a hit, it would be the perfect tribute to Adrienne Shelly. Here’s hoping this movie is liked by the audience and turns out to be a hit. With a great casting with the likes of Meg Ryan, Kristen Bell, Timothy Hutton and Justin Long, and Adrienne’s screenplay, there is no reason why the movie should not work.
