LAW ABIDING CITIZEN

By admin

Genre – Drama; Thriller
Director – F. Gary Gray
Cast – Jamie Foxx, Gerard Butler
Rated- R

Nick Price (Jamie Foxx) is a prosecutor in Philadelphia who has a case in hand to bring justice to Clyde Shelton’s (Gerard Butler) murdered wife and daughter. The story elaborates and brings to notice all the cracks in the American Justice system. Clyde is determined to fight these cracks when he realises that only one among the two accused is served the death sentence and other one was awarded a mere three year sentence. Clyde just can’t bear to see the man who was involved in the killing of his wife and daughter get away that easy.

It is about a decade since Clyde’s family is murdered. Clyde then comes out into the open with a startling confession of butchering the accused. It is highly intriguing to see how one after the other, all those connected to the case start to die. These killings will continue till the American justice system is fixed. In Clyde’s words, “I am going to bring the whole system down on your head. It is going to be biblical.”

All the mayhem, madness and carnage rolled in perfectly together makes it an apt thriller. Even though the happenings can get totally unrealistic and illogical, you get way too engrossed into the plot to concern yourself with all the whys and hows! All you can think of and look forward to is- who will be dying next and how?

Gerard Butler fits the enraged revenge-seeking role of Clyde to the tee. You can feel his intensity and vengeance throughout. Jamie Foxx as the prosecutor does a convincing job and offers what exactly you would expect. Considering the illogical plot, Director F. Gary Gray has managed to weave a fun and a thrilling film. Though the script seems silly, all the drama and thrill makes you want to sit back and ask for more. Especially the ending seems so bizarre, but you are way too excited to let that bother you. In fact, at that point of time you might even like it. It does bring across a serious point regarding the loop holes in the American Justice system.

The audience’s reactions and the movie reviews have been positive, but a section of an audience has regarded it as absurd and completely illogical. It sure is a worth a watch, if you are looking to sit back, eat popcorn and get a thrill and not use too much of your brains to sift sense from nonsense.

In a nut shell, Law Abiding Citizen has a weak script but excellent direction that can completely keep you engaged and make you look forward for more. Wont help if you if you are busy trying to reason out each and every action.

Go ahead and watch it with an open mind. You might just enjoy it too much or wonder how possibly all this can happen in real life!
