Musical movies have a unique style and setting to it, filled with characters that are impressive or a plot that is extremely twisted and music is used as a catalyst in order to vividly describe the movie. Musicals are interestingly provided that people enjoy music and at the same time a nice bit of filming that blends in completely with the music. Director Kevin Tancheroen made his directional debut in the movie Fame, which was an exact transition of the movie with the same name from the 1980s. The original was a huge success and it had a lot of fans back in the day. The remake well is quite impressive on many parts but it just does not click. Fame is a movie that in a way should have just been left alone.
The plot of the film is pretty bland and something that is not very motivating for the audience to see. It is about a set of students who have been trying out for audition in the New York School of arts. The movie and the setting is not something that is extremely interesting but yet the movie does indeed have a large set of audience who was faithful at watching it. The box office incomes were indeed pretty huge although the movie never clicked too well with the audience.

The movie and its direction are pretty good and the directional debut is really great. Kevin Tanchoran really does a great job of rewriting the original but for some reason musical movies do not seem to be his area of work. Fame is something that has been remade keeping the same excitement and fun the first movie had used. For instance the characters too resemble the ones that were used back in the 1980s and the fact that the director has used the same rooted characters that were seen in the first edition is an impressive move by a first time director. For a debutant the movie is indeed a good effort and a director like Kevin should definitely be looked out for in the future as he can really create a scene quite vividly and in a very descriptive manner. His only downfall is the fact that he failed to use the characters effectively and he should have read the script and realized how weak it was.

Apart from this, Fame is a movie that is quite watchable. It may not be the best but it is an average film with a lot of flaws. People who loved the original are in for a treat as this movie closely relates itself to the characters that came out in the first movie. Since it’s a debut for the director maybe this time he can be forgiven as there are some interesting ideas and concepts in his mind. However, with the next movie he cannot afford to be taking a risk as a lot can be expected from him for it.
