Think Hollywood and think of the most successful movies that have been made here. There are several big names that are most likely to come into your mind. And one of the prominent names among them is James Cameron’s. James Cameron is a critically well acclaimed director who has achieved great success in Hollywood with his exceptional and path breaking movies. Take his first super hit, Alien, for instance, that came out in the 80s, and still remains one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. He followed this with the Terminator series which still holds cachet as one of the greatest action movies of all time. And the entire global audience is witness to the eternal magic of Titanic. The movie is the highest grosser even today and also the leading Oscar-taker in history. And it is with this remarkable background that the world-wide audience breathlessly awaits Cameron’s next Hollywood project, Avatar, slated to hit theatres in this fall of 2009.

The plot of Avatar is set ahead in the future, in the 22nd century to be precise. It brilliantly captures the relentless military expansion that takes humans even beyond the Earth. And in this eternal conquest of extraterrestrial planets, humans reach a small moon-like planet, named as Pandora, and there the battle ensues. Pandora is inhabited by a humanoid race, Navi, whose people are just as developed as humans, but look drastically different. Their looks are unusual, and it is their distinct blue skin that makes them look splendid and celestial. Standing tall at three meters with long tales, the Navis are gentle and harmonious until threatened. And it is when the human mission, led by the former Marine Jake Sully, lands on Pandora that all hell breaks loose. The Navis are vindictive and fight ruthlessly to defend their very existence. And if you are waiting to know what the ‘Avatars’ are, they are nothing but genetically-created hybrid bodies that essentially represent the human race, but are empowered to breathe and survive on the far-away moon. An unusual love story is also embroiled into the plot, where Jake falls in love with a beautiful but equally ferocious Navi princess. And this conflict-gripped romance turns the events into a further hysteria.

Avatar is a must-watch for its cutting edge graphics and revolutionary concepts. The movie uses intense graphics, bringing the fictional characters to vigorous life. The concept is well crafted and also complicated, while the execution is impeccable a la James Cameron. The cast may be new and relatively inexperienced, but Chief Cameron pulls the strings skillfully and brilliantly. A perfect roller coaster experience.
Currently slated for a December release in 2009, the movie will have fans going gaga over the graphical bonanza. An ambitious project from the master of all times, Avatar promises to break all barriers and set the box offices across the world on wild fire.
