Release Year- 2009

Gavin Hood seems to have struck gold with the successful X men series. But does the prequel make the marvel superheroes go in the same direction they were going in with the first trilogy? Let’s find out.
Firstly, the movie, as we know, focuses primarily on the story of the famous superhero character of Wolverine, the fictional comic character that has appealed to people of all age groups across the world. He is the most famous mutant of the X men series and that is what makes the movie live up to its hype.

The movie is virtually a prequel to the previous versions of the story, and actually features the story of how the character of Wolverine came about, and thus the name Wolverine fits aptly. The plot line of the movie is based almost 15 years prior to the movie X-Men. The main focus of Wolverine is the traumatic and violent history of the half-brothers Wolverine, a mutant, and Victor Creed. It is also a visual treat into the encounters of Wolverine with William Stryker. The encounters with Team X are also portrayed craft fully and sincerely. The locations that appear in this fictional setting include Australia, predominantly, as well as New Zealand, and Canada as well.
Since the movie, and the whole of the X-men series banks heavily on splendid visual effects, you will not be surprised to come across as many as 1000 visual effect shots. Though some could have been edited so as not to put the movie in an ‘only-action-no-brain’ bracket, it is still a visual treat for all those who are fans.

The performance by Hugh Jackman, and especially Creed, is exceptional. Jackman especially comes into character and impresses with his talent as well as action. The movie follows through and ends up exactly at the start of the first X men movie. This movie has all the features that any movie should have in order to be a great one. A good cast, a good plot, action, and a good portrayal of emotions. However the movie still does not come without its fair share of flaws.
The direction is where the movie takes its first fall. Various scenes look great but simultaneously, a lot of scenes also spoil the fun. The way in which the action progresses is really disappointing, and the script isn’t all that appealing either. The movie could have been the true successor to the already well made trilogy, but somehow the movie has fallen short due to the weak script. If the directors and the writers had stuck to the basics the movie would have turned out a whole lot better.
But this doesn’t mean the movie is not watchable either. It is interesting to see how this much-loved X men mutant originated, and the way in which the plot and the story line unfold. The movie is worthy a watch if you are a fan of the sci-fi genre.
