Ross Katz is known for his work as a producer for films like Lost in Translation and In the Bedroom. He is set to write and direct an adaptation of political suspence novel The Amateur American.

The forthcoming book, written by J. Saunders Elmore, was acquired by Likely Story, the Gotham production outfit run since 2006 by Anthony Bregman. One of the indie world’s busiest producers, Bregman has racked up credits including Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Friends with Money” and “The Savages.”

Katz recently wrote and directed “Taking Chance,” a Kevin Bacon starrer for HBO that a premier in Feb. “Amateur American” is Katz’s first theatrical feature as a director.

The story follows a young American expat in France who gets drawn into a web of violet political intrigue and corruption when he takes a job translating for a shadowy pawnbroker.
