Nicole Kidman will play the world’s first post op transsexual, married to Charlize Theron.
Kidman will star and produce ‘The Danish Girl,’ based on the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage took a sharp turn to the worst after Einar (Kidman) stood in for a female model that Greta (Theron) was set to paint.
When their portraits became widly popular in 1920’s Copenhagen, Greta encourages her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einer to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.
The film will be directed by Anand Tucker, who directed Shopgirl, a beautiful movie. The film will be adapted by writer Lucinda Coxon (“Wild Target”) from David Ebershoff’s 2000 Viking bestseller. His debut novel of the same name is a fictionalized account of the Wegeners’ true story.
The produces are also include fearless men and women like Gail Mutrux, Anne Harrison and Linda Reisman, Kidman and the head of her Fox based Blossom Films partner, Per Saari. There is also another film produced by Blossom film about a bisexual singer Dusty Springfield and Nicole Kidman is set to star in it.
Pre production for the film has begun for the indie film, but no details on a principal photography start date have been disclosed.
