David Fincher will begin with his press for Benjamin Button in December, by then we should get some confirmation and hear a lot more about this project Torso, until then it is a rumor but a strong one at that. Torso is essentially a loose adaptation of a graphic novel that tells the story of the torso murders that took place in Cleveland in the 1930’s. There were talks with producer Bill Mechanic who is associated in developing this project, and found out that they are hoping that Torso will indeed be Fincher’s next project. “If everything goes according to schedule, it would be the next thing up.”
Torso is starting to sound more and more like Fincher’s return to “Fight Club form.” Mechanic explained that they have got a screenplay, penned by Ehren Kruger, and is “waiting for Paramount to decide to make it.” He adds that the film won’t follow the graphic novel literally, enough to even be given another title besides Torso in the end, and compares the changes in torso to Fight Club’s changes from Chuck Palahniuk’s book. Mechanic adds that “a lot of things that are being written about who is in it are probably true.”
Matt Damon was also being associated with the film. Damon would play Cleveland’s safety director Eliot Ness, who moves to Cleveland fresh off of the Al Capone case in Chicago. When dismembered body parts start washing up were never solved. The news about this adaptation will get a lot more buzz once the release of Benjamin Button is finalized.
