2929 Production has just got the rights to Kem Nunn novel Tejuana Straits and set Ric Roman Waugh to adapt and direct the film.

The novel is about a reclusive surfer drawn into helping a Mexican woman who is being hunted by a killer hired by cartels silence her before she exposes corruption in Tijuana.

Waugh is a former Hollywood stuntman who most recently directed the Val Kilmer Starrer Felon.

“Kem Nunn created a complex visual world of outcasts where California and Mexico meet the Pacific Ocean,” Wechsler said. “Waugh will bring his iconic fresh characters to the screen in a powerful way, the way he did with prison life in ‘Felon.’ ”

Wechsler and 2929 teamed on The Road, John Hillcoat directed adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel, which stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. The film will be release only next year and will be out of the running in the Oscar race this year.
