Matt Lucas lands a role in the Imagi Studios CG animated motion picture Astro Boy, it was announced by Erin Corbett, President of Imagi Studios U.S. The star cast already included the likes of Nicolas Cage, Kristen Bell, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, Bill Nighy and Eugene Levy with Freddie Highmore in the title role.
Matt Lucas is a winner of multiple BAFTA Awards for the popular BBC somedy series Little Britain. He has appeared widely on the stage as well as in feature films and television, most recently starring in HBO’s Little Britain USA series.
David Bowers whose last work was Flushed Away will be directing the movie. The screenplay is written by Timothy Harris, with Maryann Garger producing.
The series Astro Boy has found a global popularity since his creation in the early 1950s by Japan’s Osamu Tezuka who is known as the god of manga. He has been the mind behind three acclaimed animated television series aired around the world.
The film will be set in the future, it will be a classic superhero origin story about a young robot with incredible powers and his adventure filled journey in search of his identity and destiny, taking him into a netherworld of robot gladiators before he returns to save Metro City.
The film will release on October 23 rd 2009.
