Elia Suleiman

Suleiman will lense the tentatively titled project in New York, Paris and Israel. It tells a semi autobiographical story of a Palestinian family from the 1948 creation of Israel to the present day.

“It’s a different angle on a similar theme,” Suleiman said.

“We will see the same character Elia played in ‘Divine Intervention,’ but when that film came out Elia used to say the chaos was in Israel. Now the chaos is all over the world,” said Fabienne Vonier, Pyramide prexy. “The film has black humor, nonsense and absurdity. We have to find a way to talk about the darkness of the world without frightening the audience.”

The 7 million dollar picture marks the final part of Suleiman’s trilogy, which began with Chronicles of a Disappearance and Divine Intervention.

Latter picture won the 2002 jury prize at Cannes. The film will continue Suleiman’s examinations of Palestinian identity and promises to be his most expensive feature to date, spanning the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 through to the present.

Michael Gentile is also producing the film, along with Belgian producer Artemis, UK based outfit Corniche Pictures and the Eurimages Fund have also added coin to the project, which should be completed for next year’s Cannes.
