The director who just recently pulled out of IFC after some distribution battles is all set to release his movie on New York’s Film Forum this week.

This comes after the writer director thought he could do a better job on his own if he self distributed the film. The trailer which was feature on our sit a while back was a hallmark of great use of sound by the creators.

“A part of me is very excited. I see no division between writing, production and releasing”, says Hammer, who also designed the film’s poster, trailer and ad slicks himself.

“What is a distribution company?” he continues.” There are not that many people doing the work. If I could match IFC’s P&A and find good people, theirs is no reason why we couldn’t do just as well.”

Even though this might seem like a gamble for the director he’s actually in good company this year. This comes as many of the independent features released this year hasn’t been really doing that well actually. But another Sundance film that went alone is Randall Miller’s Bottle Shock that did pretty well and grossed nearly 4 million dollars in grosses since bowing inAugust 6 th. Not satisfied with the offers they were getting, that film’s producers hired Freestyle Releasing to do all the heavy work.

Now thanka to New York’s Independent Feature Project the October 3rd screening of the film is totally sold out. IFP’s first weekend program guarantees soldout shows for self distributing filmmakers by buying out the theatre. The organization then sells the 25 dollar tickets to a screening evert that includes conversation and after party hosted by a personality. Tony Award winner Sarah Jones will do the honors for Ballast.

“I’m very keen on distribution now,” says Hammer, noting he plans to have several other projects in the pipeline soon.
