Kiyoshi Kurosawa

Regent Releasing has just acquired the North American rights to Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s domestic drama Tokyo Sonata. The film just recently won the Jury prize at the recent Cannes film festival and also was screened at Toronto film festival.

The darkly comic portrayal of a laid off Japanese businessman played by Teruyuki Kagawa whose effort to hide his unemployment leads to the demise of his family won this year’s Un Certain Regard Jury Prize in Cannes. The film will have its US release on October 9 th at the New York Film Festival, followed by a theatrical rollout in Select cities early next year.

Yukie Kito and Fortissimo Films produced the project that is better known for the J Horror films like Pulse. This is surely a departure from their early work but is sure going to be something really interesting to watch on the big screen.
