A scene from India's entry

France has sent The Class as their entry to the Oscars. The foreign language category also got three other films, one is the Bent Hamer’s O Horten from Norway and another is the Indian hopeful Taare Zameen Par directed by debutant director and actor Aamir Khan.

The Class which won the Palm d’Or at Cannes is surely one of the strongest contenders this year.

It is adapted from Francois Begaudeau’s novel; the film chronicles the experience of a teacher in an underprivileged Paris neighborhood.

The film will be screened in France from tomorrow. Memento Films is handling international sales of the movie.

O Horten the Norwegian entry is already picked up by Sony Picture Classics.

The bittersweet comedy is about a train driver heading into retirement, written and produced by Hamer for Bulbur Films.

The film is also running for a nomination from the European Film Academy awards, to be handed out in Copenhagen on December 6 th.

The big news from India is UTV’s Taare Zameen Par a relationship movie about a dyslexic child and a teacher who goes the extra mile.

The film is directorial debut of super star Aamir Khan. It has already picked up six top awards at the Nokia 14 th Annual star Screen Awards over the weekend. Aamir Khan’s 2001 film Lagaan was one of the front runners at the foreign language Oscar nomination.

The film was a weepy smash hit and was selected by the Film Federation of India on Saturday and seems unlikely to draw the same degree of criticism as did last year’s nomination process.
