Universal has hired Wes Anderson to write a remake of the French film Mon meilleur Ami. The film looks into the life of a cranky old antiques dealer played by Daniel Auteuil in the original, who learns at a diner with his closet acquaintances that none of them really liked him. When his partner bets that he won’t be able to get a best friend he meets an amiable cab driver to pose as his buddy. It is still not certain whether Anderson is on board to direct the film.
The film was much loved by the French paying public. It had won the hearts of many for its twisted ideas of friendship. But it is surely yet to be seen, whether Wes Anderson will be able to recreate the hardships this party pooper of a story. He surely has the credentials for it like the immensely likeable Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and the subliminal comedy Royal Tenenbaums. So this might be a huge departure for the director. Hopefully Brian Grazer the producer will think of getting someone to direct the movie.
