Steven Sodenbergh is fresh from sealing his deal with IFC for the distribution of his 4 hour Che epic, is now all set to direct a movie on Liberace for Warner Bros.
The filmmaker has just given word that he has drafted the script, which will star Michael Douglas as the flamboyant pianist.
Richard LaGravanese is writing the script, and Jerry Weintraub will produce. He is now in discussions with Matt Damon to play Scott Thorson, who sued Liberace in 1982 for 113 million dollars in palimony, claiming he was the entertainer’s companion for five years. This is surely going to be a return of Michael Douglas to the Sodenbergh universe that he is really familiar with. Even though never wavered from career long denials that he was gay, Thorson reportedly settled for 95000 dollars in 1986. Liberace died of AIDs at the age of 67.
Sodenbergh has several projects lined up before he sets foot into this one. One is called the The Girlfriend Experience about a call girl for 2929 Entertainment. Another will be another low budget film, much in the vain of Bubble, which had a simultaneous theatrical cable and DVD release.
Matt Damon has finished shooting for Steven Sodenbergh’s recent movie called the Informant.
