James Bond will be one of the big attractions of the London Film Festival. Some of the other interesting titles include the George W. Bush film by Oliver Stone called W, Steven Sodenbergh’s Che, Michael Winterbottom’s Genova and Ari Folman’s Waltz With Bashir.
But it is surely going to be the world wide premier of Quantum of Solace that is going to be the big thing at this festival. Ron Howard’s Frost Nixon also looks interesting while the festival favorite Slumdog Millionaire is surely going to be a big attraction. Artistic director of the program has said there will be 15 world, 20 european and 119 U.K premiers and some 108 short films in total.
This year there has been some strong British entres , with Nick Moran’s “Telstar,” Duane Hopkins’ “Better Things,” Gerald McMorrow’s “Franklyn” and Mike Figgis’ “Love Live Long” all receiving U.K. premiers.
A special tribute was paid to Anthony Minghella who died in March this year. A quote by him was featured in the festival brochure “Something so powerful as film should be celebrated and understood.” A tribute that was due in part for his great cinematic contribution.
