Slash film had a three part interview with director of the recent Venice film festival winner Darren Aronofsky. He has been in the news for various reasons. One is for the hugely anticipated other world Robocop movie that has been in the news for all the right reasons. Another project that he has been talking extensively about is the Noah’s Ark Film.
The idea came about when he had visited a museum exhibit. When Brad Pitt had left the production of Fountain weeks before principal photography, Darren spend some time pondering the idea of making a movie based on the ship. Aronofsky told the Guardian
“Noah was the first person to plant vineyards and drink wine and get drunk. It’s there in the Bible – it was one of the first things he did when he reached land. There was some real survivor’s guilt going on there. He’s a dark, complicated character. The tragedies we perform on each other are so well reported. Quite clearly, the planet is dying, and we are dying on it.”
The film is almost done with the scripting stage. Darren and his friend Ari Handel have scripted the movie.
“We have an amazing screenplay” Aronofsky told slashfilm. “It is a great script and it’s huge. And we are starting to feel out talent. And then we will probably try and set it up”
This is surely going to be in the scale of Titanic and will feature some interesting special effects.
“It’s the end of the world and it’s the second most famous ship after the Titanic. So I’m not sure why any studio won’t want to make it,” said Aronofsky. “I think it’s really timely because it’s about environmental apocalypse which is the biggest theme, for me, right now for what’s going on on this planet. So I think it’s got these big, big themes that connect with us. Noah was the first environmentalist. He’s a really interesting character. Hopefully they’ll let me make it.”
I really hope someone picks up on these series of interviews and gives the go ahead for this talented director.
