New Line has just acquired the rights of The Thirteenth Hour a time travel novel by Richard Doetsch. Michael De Luca will product the film, this will be his first tryst with newly formed New Line, since leaving his post as production executive eight years ago and turned down a rich pre negotiated deal to produce films there.

Doetsch’s last work the last bestseller The Thieves of Heaven will be developed by Fox. His new novel will be auctioned shortly to publishers by lit agent Cynthia Manson.

It is a film that will be a cross between Bourne Identity and The Time Traveler’s Wife one of my favorite books. It follows the life of a man accused of brutally murdering his wife who is given a chance to save her by going back in time, in one hour increments. He begins to find out what really happened to his wife and who killed her.

“It has a great cinematic structure that unfolds in reverse,” De Luca said. It was a narrative that made Memento a cult classic, the director was also asked if he had any fears about time traveling back to his old stomping grounds. De Luca said “It’s my first encounter with the new New Line, but I’m very comfortable there. It’s familiar territory for me.”

De Luca just finished producing a string of interesting projects, like the remake of Brothers directed by Jim Sheridan starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman. He is also producing Dracula Year Zero with Alex Proyas directing. So I just hope the 13 th hour turns into something that is will set a benchmark of sorts.
