The North American rights to Swedish director Jan Troell’s Everlasting Moments have been bought by IFC. The bitter battle between Sony Picture Classics and Roadside Attractions ended with IFC prevailing.
The film will be released in 2009 via simultaneous theatrical and VOD setup. It was pursued by distributors after its recent screening at the Telluride film festival part of the Troell retrospective. It tells the story of Troell’s wife’s grandmother who started a weird photography hobby, examining cultural shifts over time through the history of one family.
There are two versions of the film, one 21 minutes longer than the other, and IFC is still determining which cut US audiences will see.
Troell is known for his films like The Emigrants and its subsequent sequel, is considered by some at par, with other greats from his home land like Ingmar Bergman.
