There have been a lot of serious actors rushing to fill themselves up for the new Ginsberg movie. Alan Rudd, Jeff Daniels, Mary Louise Parker, David Strathairn and Paul Rudd are said to join the project.
The film will focus on the 1950s era, where the obscenity trial took place, when they wanted to censor the Allen Ginsberg’s record breaking book length poem. James Franco will play Ginsberg.
Many of the real life characters who were part of the cast are are Judge Clayton Horn (Alda), prosecution witness Professor David Kirk (Daniels), radio personality and prosecution witness Gail Potter (Parker), prosecuting attorney Ralph McIntosh (Strathairn) and literary critic and defense witness Luther Nichols (Rudd).
Howl marsk the feature directing debut of documentarians Rob Epstein and Jeffery Friedman who were approached by the Allen Ginsberg Trust to make a film commemorating the 50 th anniversary of Howl.
“Fifty years later, Ginsberg’s vision is as relevant as the year he wrote it,” Friedman said. “It resonates with issues of free speech, government censorship, militaristic empire building, fear-mongering, sexual conformity and the co-opting of religion.”
There will be a graphic animated reimagining of the film in the works of the revolutionary poem. Carter Burwell will write the score for the film.
Epstein and Friedman produced and directed ‘Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt’ and Epstein directed The Times of Harvey Milk both were Oscar winning Documentaries. So with their feature length debut and with such and interesting, it is surely going to be the most watched out film next year.
