Danny Boyle sinks his head into a story about a boy who is about the experience the biggest day of his life. The film tells the story about a boy Jamal Malik, an 18 year old orphan from the slums of Mumbai who is just a question away from winning a staggering 2 crore rupees on India’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

But when the show goes for a break for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid end up winning so much on a game show. So in order to prove his innocence he tells the story of his life from the slums, his adventures with his friends, his encounters with the mob and also the girl he loved and lost. These chapters of his life hold the key to many of the answers to the film.
