A Scene from the movie

The film that took four years to complete is collaboration between Israeli, German and French production houses. The film talks about the 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacre. But the uniqueness of this film is the fact that it is an animated documentary. It has already received widespread acclaim at its premier at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film is totally unusual in it being a documentary movie made by animation. The rules of animation were sorted of changed last year with the release of Persepolis. Many people have said that it will be a new era in animation and now with the release of this movie it will take animation a step further. The film combines classic music, 1980’s rock music, realistic graphics and surrealistic scenes together with illustrations similar to comics.

The film is about a 20 year old infantry soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. He meets a friend from the army who tells him about what happened in the war. But Folman seems to have forgotten most of the war. Finally after a lot of discussions he seems to piece together what really happened in the war.
