Charlize Theron plays Sylvia a woman who tries to restore her relationship with her parents after a difficult childhood with them. Kim Basinger who plays her mother as seen from Sylvia’s childhood is Gina. The film is The Burning Plain and it is written and directed by Guillermo Arraiga. He is the same guy who penned the scripts for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s films Amores Perros, 21 Grams and Babel.

Arriaga said that he wanted to write a script for himself to direct after 11 years of scriptwriting. The writer-director described the premise, “There are very intense love stories here that take place in different places and times, with characters trying to find the healing powers of love, forgiveness and redemption.”

This will be in the same vain as the last three films he has penned. They will have multiple story lines seamlessly coercing into one film. The film is financed by 2929 Productions and The Weinstein Company already bought the rights to distribute it in Latin America. The film is surely going to be one of the Oscar contenders this year when it premiers at the Venice Film Festival next month.
