Mandalay Pictures just acquired their rights on the big screen adaptation of the graphic novel “Julius.” F.Gray Gray is attached to direct the film.

The screenplay will be written by Antony Johnston and illustrated by Brett Weldele, “Julius” is a urban crime adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar.”

The film will be depicted little differently said Mandalay prexy Cathy Schulman “Grey has a vision for this adaptation that will satirize obsessive consumerism while providing a thrilling ride for audiences.”

Eric Gitter of Closed on Mondays Entertainment, the producing arm of Oni Press, will produce; Oni’s Peter Schwerin and Joe Nozemack exec produce. Schulman, David Zelon and Jonathan Krauss will oversee the project for Mandalay.

Other than Julius Oni will be taking on several other projects like “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” currently in pre-production with Edgar Wright directing it. The film will star Michael Cera who seems to be the favorite of many off beat director. I think it is after the Arrested Development and Juno roles he did that he has been the top choice for many directors. Couple of other projects are also lined up like the Resurrection at Universal; “Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things” and “The Damned” at DreamWorks; and “Maintenance” and “Billy Smoke” at Warner Bros.

Here are some of Mandalay pictures upcoming projects like Universal’s The Birds to be directed by Martin Campbell and starring the talented Naomi Watts who really deserves an Oscar. Werner Herzog also seems to be getting ready for his Piano Tuner for Focus Features.
