This year there will be a lot of stars turning up for the festival like Kevin Spacey and Charlie Kaufman among others. The festival kicked off its friday screening with a film called Snow. It is about the life in a village in post war Bosnia.
The film that had got honored this year at the Cannes was a good opening night film. It was seen through by many critics in May at the Cannes.
The festival will span 9 days in a sandbag protected basement. It will show around 170 movies from 40 countries. Last year the event attracted more than 100,000 people.
The film festival was the brain child of few young people who tried to offer the people of their county a sense of a normal life. They felt there was need to bring in some sort of culture for the people over here. He finally screened Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.
During the projection of the film many people were confused whether the noises from the gunshots were from the movie or from outside. There have been many supporters of this event who have time and again supplied people with movie tapes and food for the festival.
The festivals have got renewed interest after many of the films from the country have performed really well at other venues. Like the Oscar winning film directed by Danis Tanovic called No Man’s Land in 2002 and the Golden Bear for the Jasmila Zbanic Grbavica in 2006.
