Wheel of Time rights bought by Universal

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights for the popular Robert Jordan’s best selling ” The Wheel of Time” novel series in a seven figure deal. This is surely going to be the next Lord of the Rings if it is directed well.

The adaptation will begin with the first book in the series The Eye of the World. Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon will produce for Red Eagle Entertainment, which published the extremely popular graphic novel adaptations of Jordan’s books.

The film is blessed with several characters that will bring many people to the series and get many more readers. “The Wheel of Time” follows, among its dozens of characters, Rand al’Thor, the latest incarnation of a force for good called “The Dragon.” Rand is born to fight an evil character called Shai’tan.

The books have sold more than 44 million copies worldwide and has also created several computer, trading card and role playing games; a soundtrack; comicbooks and numerous fan sites. The recent books has reached the top of the New York Times best seller list.

Robert Jordan had passed last year at 58 but was not able to complete the last book and is still set for a date for publication in fall 2009. Brandon Sanderson writing the novel’s conclusion
