A scene from the Class

Clint Eastwood’s Changeling will be the centerpiece of the 46 th New York Film festival and the Wrestler by Darren Aronofsky will be the closing night selection. The film society of Lincoln announced yesterday. Another highlight of the festival is the revival of the Max Ophuls’s final masterpiece, “Lola Montes,”. It will be featured in the festival’s spotlight retrospective. All the 28 films for the festival will be screened at the Ziegfeld Theatre between Sep 26 th and October 12 th.

Now for the countries represented in the festival France has the highest representation this year after scoring the Palm d’Or at cannes with The Class. The opening French Film will be The Class by Laurent Cantet. Other included films are Arnaud Desplechen star studded family drama ” A Christmas tale”. Another french movie is the Agnes Jaoui film about aspiring filmmakers following a rising female politician. Let It Rain by the famed Olivier Assaya’s will be an introspection on time and mortality. Then the unconventional war time autobiography ” Waltz with Bashir” another prominent French Co-productions.

The next country to be fairly represented in the festival is America. Changeling will already be there at the opening night. So the rest of them include the story of a professional wrestler who s advised to stop wrestling by his doctors starring Mickey Rourke whose career seems to be going from strength to strength after his performance in Sin City as Marv. Antonio Campos Afterschool Kelly Reichardt’s ” Wendy and Lucy” and Alexander Olch’s The Windmill Movie.

Other than this there is also screenings of some festival veterans like Jia Zangke(”24 City”),Wong Kar-Wai (”Ashes of Time Redux”), and Mike Leigh (”Happy-Go-Lucky”). Steven Soderbergh also returns with “Che,” a two-part biography of the Argentine revolutionary starring Benicio del Toro.

Tickets for the festival will go on sale at September 7th.
