Actor James Franco with his latest turn as the pot smoking guy on Pineapple Express is also set to star in Milk. He will be having a supporting role in the film. But the excitement generated by the film is sure going to get it in the indie box office favorites for the year. The film is sure to get a lot of Oscar buzz for Sean Pean’s take as a gay politician who was shot dead.

Franco on the other hand will play one of the supporters of Harvey Milk. His character Scott Smith is also his lover in the film. Milk was assassinated in 1978 by a man who had previously held his city office. The talented Emile Hirsch also plays the flamboyant Cleve Jones. The film has been the news for quite sometime now and it is known to be one of Gus Van Sant’s dream projects.

Franco had this to say about his role in the movie.

“This scene went on for a long time, like half the day, and it’s getting old… and I go over to Sean and I guess he didn’t know that I was wearing a prosthetic. I go, `Sean, you’re such a great actor but you wouldn’t do a scene like this if they asked you; you wouldn’t dive into a pool naked.’ And he said… `Well James, if I was built like you, I would.’ A couple of weeks later we did this scene, where we’re both dancing and we’re naked, and we both have prosthetic penises. He finally put it together that I’m wearing, like, the Boogie Nights prosthetic.”
