Jack Black in Tropic Thunder

A press meeting was held for the Tropic Tunder cast. Jack black quite a lot to say about his next couple of projects in the pipeline. His biggest one being the religious comedy called Year One.

Filming for the film is almost done and director Harold Ramis cast both Jack Black and Michael Cera. After Johnny Depp changed the way comedy was looked upon after his starring role as Captain Jack Sparrow. Comedies have turned out to be more smarter than before. Jack Black had this to say about Year One.

We’re just dudes. We’re just a couple guys that are not famous Biblical characters wandering through, there’s a lot of Biblical famous people in the movie, that we wander by and interact with.

There will be several interactions with people like Abraham, Cain and Abel, Adam and Noah. So this will be a film that will surely have cult audience guys running to the theater. Jack Black’s career seems to be going on an upswing after the recent Kung Fu Panda. People really can’t get enough of him. So it will be really fun to see him in Tropic which i ll be seeing tomorrow by the way. But for Year One it will be more in the lines of the Monty Python Biblical comedies like Life of Brian.

There are also several other ideas in the pipeline. But one big is the psychedelic rocked Roky Erickson of the band The 13th Floor Elevators. He wants Emile Hirsch playing a young Roky who after being ruled a paranoid schizophrenic after years of drug abuse, was committed to a psychiatric asylum, where he underwent electro-convulsion therapy. A couple of years later he comes out the asylum as a still crazy rocker that will be played by Black. Jack Black also joked that this might turn out to be his Oscar winning role and that it would be his Shine.

But in the immediate future there is the School of Rock sequel to look forward too and the Renaissance Fair themed comedy Ye Olde Times. So with all these movies and the sure fire hit this weekend Tropic Thunder Jack is surely doing good.
