Rian Johnson on his Sci Fi film

Rian Johnson seems to be in the limelight for all the right reasons. His most recent trailer Brothers Bloom was featured on our site it is surely a far cry from his masterpiece Brick. Brick was one of those ice cold high school noir. It was sort of the first of its kind. It featured dialog of an orthodox style. The film also boasted of one of the key acting talents of this century Joseph Gordon Lewitt. He plays a man trying to find out who killed his girlfriend. The cinematic journey of Rian seems to take a step forward where he is likely to take up a sci fi project. IGN spoke with Rian on his links with the sci-fi flick simply titled Looper, that will be ” really violent and dark.”.

Here is a part of the discussion IGN had with him. “well, I think people toss out Philip Dick sci-fi when they mean ’small, dark’ sci-fi. Although, when I think of Philip Dick’s books, it’s something very different. I think people are confusing it with the movie Blade Runner.” So if the movie is more in line with Dick darkness it is surely something Rian will be comfortable with. He continues “To me, it’s a lot more like the first Terminator. It’s very sci-fi, but it’s very character-based and very concentrated. It’s very different from the Terminator movies, but it’s like the first Terminator in that time travel is involved with it, but only as a plot device.” Nothing is really revealed about the plot of the film but it seems to be an assured ride.

This is surely going to be exciting times in Indie cinema with many of their screen Gems taken into mainstream. Ryan seems to be one of the early birds into this transition. He seems to fit
