When people go to cinemas to find answers to their lives or just pure entertainments they really need to get their head examined. It is not really a time and place for something like that. But certainly it has come a long way in telling more realistic stories. Over the years many films have come from the minds of people who are either related to great minds or thinkers. Here is one other artist who seems to come from such a background. Mr Garcia has a really interesting father to take many of his ideas from. But he seems to totally go away from most of his work and create something that is totally unique.
The film has nine stories that are not even remotely connected. They just delve into the human conditions and bring their very own trials and tribulations. It doesn’t feel like commenting on any one of these people. The stories are so simply told and even feel really light even though they have characters that are just waiting to claw at each others lives. One of the shorts with Holly Hunter echoes one of the scenes from Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage. But the references are far too little to see in this great movie. There is also a lot of anger that gets furnished on many of the stories. There is a lot of anger that comes out of these light but very real stories. He gives us a chance to see some of Marques spirit in these modern stories. It is really hard to bring in Magic Realism to cinema look at what happened to Love at the time of Cholera. This film does have its moments of grace that touches us and leaves with a light mood.
Though all this might make you think the film is a light hearted piece of art. But this film surely does take itself seriously. It is one thing to make a film on magic realism and loose wind of what you have strived to create. Another problem is how many people will take these stories seriously. They are not your typical Hallmark stories they deal with many mature thematic issues. But the magic that comes out of these stories is really something that is truly within each of us. We are truly magical beings not sure of how far we can go. We limit ourselves by saying that this is the only way to live or move around this world. But it is not there is more to this than what we can see in plain sight. Loads of us have encountered such events but have failed to acknowledge it. A movie like this could surely make you recognize such events. For that reason this movie is truly a masterwork from a young mind.
