Dad (Walter L. Shaw) was a scientific genius, credited with 39 patents and responsible for such telecommunications breakthroughs as the speaker phone, call forwarding and conference calling. His son (Walter T. Shaw), distraught at how his father was denied credit and compensation for his inventions, grew up to become a jewel thief who vengefully targeted rich white folk.
Now Walter is retired from his profession and is about to put the finishing touches to his script. He has already written a book named Licensed to Steal and he is hoping to write a script on the manuscript. The Dad and son were not ready to reconcile till the last 18 months where they had just talks about the son’s profession.
Shaw Jr has claimed that he has done over 2000 robberies estimated to be worth about 75 million dollars in cash. This is not it he was able to rob people so fast that they wouldnt know for like weeks till the robbery has happened such was his skill.
Prospective film producer Linda Cooper says that’s part of the attraction.
“He was so good and so clever and so quiet that some people never knew they were burglarized for two or three weeks,” she marvels. “Insurance companies wouldn’t pay because they thought they had done a scam. There was no evidence. It was just in and out, that’s how fast.”
The foreword to his book A license to Steal was written by actor Frank Vincent, who played Tony’s archrival Phil Leotardo on The Sopranos.
