Trailer out for Fernando Meirelles’ Blindness

The first trailer for Blindness, the new movie by Fernando Meirelles is out on the internet along with the official Miramax website. Meirelles who appeared with a bang on the world cinema stage with the amazing Brazilian gangster movie City of God. While in his first movie he blended realism with kinetic and gritty action sequences, he firmly established his reputation with The Constant Gardener, an intelligent and riveting adaptation of the John Le Carre book. Now, he has turned his attention to one of the best works of Nobel prize winning author, Jose Saramago.

The book carrying forward the tradition of great dystopian literature tells the story of an un-named city struck by an inexplicable epidemic of blindness. It combines dark humor with an in-depth observation of human nature in times of crisis. If it is at all possible to translate the abstract themes of the novel to the silver screen, Meirelles seems the ideal director for the purpose. Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Alice Braga, Gael Garcia Bernal and Danny Glover make up the cast for the movie.
