Demi Moore seems to have been bitten by the indie bug. She has signed up for roles in two independent flicks Happy Tears and Bunraku. She is starring along with Parker Posey in the family drama Happy Tears, being helmed by Michael Lichtenstein. He has recently gained good word of mouth around the festival circuits for his offbeat horror movie Teeth. It follows a woman (Posey), prone to self-aggrandizement, who returns to her Wisconsin home and must deal with her bitter sister and her father, who suffers from a rare form of dementia. Moore plays the sister, fed up with dealing with the hateful father.
At the other end of the spectrum is the fantasy Bunraku, being written and directed by Guy Moshe (who made the 2006 movie Holly about child prostitution in Vietnam). Josh Hartnett co-stars as a guy on a revenge quest who finds himself in an even bigger fight than he bargained for. It is supposed to draw from multiple genres, including puppets, origami, comic books, video games and German expressionism. Moore plays the enslaved concubine of a warlord who is forced to marry her captor. Harrelson, plays a bartender. Shooting is scheduled to take place in Europe.
