Release date: March, 2008 (France)

Paris is a movie about love, life… and Paris!

After his two most famous movies, L’auberge Espagnole (”Pot Luck”) and Les Poupées Russes (”Russian Dolls”), Cédric Klapisch meddles once more the lives of his characters to give a general overview of life.

It all starts with Pierre (Romain Duris) who, in his thirties, learns that he has heart failure and might not have much more time to live. Weakened and desperate, he doesn’t leave his flat anymore. From then on, the ex-cabaret dancer’s only entertainment is to watch his neighbors from his balcony and live through their lives.

The baker of the street (Karine Viard), who manages both being a horrible boss and a fakely pleasant seller.

The student who lives right accros the street (Mélanie Laurent), so pretty that Pierre sometimes wonder if she would like him. And he’s not the only one. Her college history teacher Roland (Fabrice Lucchini) finds himself so madly in love with her that he acts as a young fool to seduce her.

This gives his brother Philippe (François Cluzet), the architect, a good laugh, he who is trapped in such a normal life that he has nightmares about it.

Pierre finally admits to his sister Elise (Juliette Binoche) and her three children that he is sick. From then on she will take care of him. For him, she brings life inside the walls of his apartment, and in return he gives her back the taste of life she thought she had forever lost.

This gives her the courage to go to Jean (Albert Dupontel) the fruit seller, who is separated from his wife but devastated when she abruptly dies.

In his new movie, Klapisch carefully interconnects the destinies of a cabaret dancer, a social worker, a baker, a college teacher, an architect, a student, an immigrant, a model and a fruit seller in a net that has Paris not only as a background, but also as another character. He manages to do that with both humor and gravity, as well as numerous views of Paris and an incredible cast. This makes the two hour movie a real pleasure to watch.
