Material Entertainment presents a film written by Michael Ian Black and Simon Pegg, Directed by David Schwimmer. Runtime: 101 minutes.
In a moment of disillusionment, Dennis Doyle (Simon Pegg) leaves his pregnant wife Libby (Thandie Newton) at the altar and runs for his life. He, of course, was forgetting in the midst of all that’s happening around him that she was his life. He was absolutely in love with her. So much, that he thought that rather than being stuck with a loser like him for the rest of her life, she deserved better.
Better arrived five years later in the form of Whit (Hank Azaria), a dashing American entrepreneur with everything that Dennis never had. An expensive house, a well-maintained body and, of course, now Libby. Plus, he runs the Nike River-run marathon every year. Dennis, on the other hand, works as a security guard for a lingerie store and can barely afford to pay rent to his Indian landlord, Mr. Goshdashtidar (Harish Patel in a perfectly cast role).
Now, Dennis is suddenly overwhelmed by the feeling that Whit is a twit and that Libby deserves an even better significant other – him. But he’s goofed up so bad with her that she isn’t willing to reconsider. To make matters worse, Whit is actually getting closer to Dennis and Libby’s son. And he has plans to move to Chicago soon with them. So what does Dennis do to win Libby and his son back? He decides to run the Nike River-run marathon.
Yes, it doesn’t make sense, but sometimes, the stupidest things you do make the most sense. And that’s what eventually works for Dennis.
David Schwimmer did a really good job on this film. He chose the best actors for the roles
and made sure they performed well. Simon Pegg is brilliant as usual. His dialogue delivery and physical comedy are worth every mention. I can safely say that he’s the reason this movie kicks off to a good start. Thandie Newton was cold, but only because her character was expected to be so. Hank Azaria was placed perfectly as the character you sympathise with in the beginning, but soon begin to see dark shades in. And last but not the least, Harish Patel, plays an angry Indian landlord with utmost realism.
More than slapstick humour, David Schwimmer has chosen verbal and gesticulated comedy to make this film one of the most charming rib-ticklers to release this year.
