When everyone turned him down he still took it with a smile. Chris Gardener put a lot of himself on the line even though things around him didnt look so good. But this one of things which Will Smith took when he approached this role. He goes through several different phases of this mans life with utmost conviction. Will and his son are made to be the protagonists of this movie. They are a father and a son who see a lot of hardships till he reaches his very last goal. The journey he needs to embark on is one very few would have tested. He pursues this journey like the title itself. The film is divided into several parts with a voice over from the future. This makes the movie not like any other rags to riches story. Chris Gardener was used as a consultant to help the director through this emotional journey.

The story begins with Gardener selling some bone density scanners to pay his bills. But then one fine day he meets a stock broker and fills in his application. During all this he needs to send his son to day school and has to be put down by a harsh wife played by the refereshing Thandie Newton. But the things even more difficult when he gets caught for not paying his park bills on the day of his interview. His wife also leaves him for all the mess he has caused in his life. The son and dad now have to fend for themeselves while dad works by selling these machines to hospitals and studying to get into the stock broker firm.

This is one movie which works very well because it brings forward a spirit. A spirit which we can all relate with which is happiness. But the whole film devotes its time on this pursuit. But it leaves us with a smile and a tear. One of the most stirring moments in this movie is of imagination where both of them leave their sadness by throwing away reality. They end up sleeping in a cave but this is no cave its a toilet where they spend their night. I dont know how many people will get inspired by this. But i don’t mind being one of the fools in love with this movie.
