This film raises the awareness of geo political issues. It starts in a place not so different from Dubai where workers wait in a fog for a bus which takes them to work. Then from here on it hopes from country to country introducing to us different characters from different walks of life. The director who is from Texas loves cars and also loves driving them around as well. But this doesnt stop him from telling a story which has brought together some extremely like minded actors. They have taken the task of putting this difficult movie on to the silver screen.
First there is George Clooney who plays a CIA operative who had idealogies of doing things for his country but after alot years has now taken a cynical view point which causes him to take up another assignment. This movie deciedes to take a liken to the CIA operatives fall from grace. But it still doesnt shy away from telling five different connected stories which are connected by only one selfish neccessity of man which is oil. Matt Damon plays a reporter and analyst who flies to the Arab world and after the death of his son in syriana. He begins to take interests in the Crown Prince who takes him to become his advisor. But the Crown Prince is taken as a terrorist to the outside world especially to the west. His interests are only for the self improvement of his country. But this will leave US not being able ot put sanctions on all the oil rich countries. They have a simple policy with violence they can breed success.
There are also other characters like Jeffery Wright who used to fix the problem of a merger between companies. But the government doesnt see this fit for the interests of its foreign policy. But Jeffery Wright is used to fix the problem by coming to terms with corruption among other things. The director relates the people who stay in America to the ones who work on the petrol sites in the hypothetical society. He draws parellels between both kids in the movies. The CIA agent’s kid and the converted terrorist share startling resemblances which can be grave for an outsider who is watching this. This whole movie which might sound grave in its outset is shown with such pace it almost makes it devastating. It sort of hints at what we have done to ourselves by making us greedy and hungry for power just in the name of oil. It shows a lot of face of man which makes it tour de force for humanity itself. This might look average at some point due to some shoddy acting by some of the other people who are not the stars. But this movie in not about that but of telling a story which might causes the necessary ripple in our fundamental natures.
