The film follows the story two university friends in Romania. The film is set during the last years of the Ceau?escu regime. It deals with a unplanned pregnancy and thereby an illegal obortion which takes place in a cheap motel room. The director had initially planned a collection short stories but then decided to stick with a real life incident which happened during the communist regime. He also wanted add a serious tone to the film. The film won the Palm D’Or at the Cannes 2007. It is also one of the series of great films which have been coming from this country.
