“Promise me you’ll stop. Promise me you’ll stop before I do”

Candy is an offbeat love story involving two heroin addicts. It has all the elements of a typical love story. A girl who comes from a well to do family but has problems with the way her mom treats her. The guy is an orphan with only his uncle to take care of him but well his uncle is a junkie too.
The movie takes you on a journey through the lives of two junkies. We see how their addiction to heroin is more important to them than their lives. There are things which they are forced to do because of their addictions. Its an intense mixture of emotions. The movie takes a whole new outlook on life through the eyes of junkies.
Abbie Cornish has done a marvelous job and has matured if not improved on her performance in Somersault. Her character takes to the drugs like a child which makes her relationship with her parents deteriorate to the point where she can’t reconcile with herself anymore. Heath Ledger has done an amazing job as a poet turned junkie and his character treads a very thin line to stay within reach of what he wants.
The movie has amazing cinematography and is shot in some of the most beautiful places in Australia. The best thing about the movie is the way it takes you through Candy and Dan’s love for each other to their insatiable addiction to drugs. Dan’s love for Candy (Abbie Cornish and Heroin) is honest and real. He is stuck having to choose between staying clean and giving up his love, and his love for Candy.
